RASC News Agency: Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, recently stated that part of the United States’ aid to Afghanistan under Taliban rule is being used to fund terrorists. The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee made these remarks on Wednesday, May 1, during a roundtable discussion held by the committee in the US Congress on US citizens detained and held hostage in various countries worldwide.
McCaul added that US taxpayers are concerned that American aid may be used to support terrorists. He stated that if the Taliban want US aid to Afghanistan under their rule to continue, they must release American “hostages” from prison.
During the session, Anna Corbett, the wife of Ryan Corbett, who is being held in a Taliban prison, expressed uncertainty about what is being done to secure her husband’s release. She addressed the committee members, saying, “We can and must do better for our loved ones.” Ryan Corbett, who had worked in Afghanistan for years, was arrested by Taliban members in the summer of 2022, along with German and Afghanistani colleagues in northern Afghanistan, on charges of “violating Afghanistan laws.”
US Representative Brian Mast, on the sidelines of the meeting, stated that because the Taliban do not feel threatened by the United States, an American citizen remains detained in their custody. Mast warned that anyone who takes an American hostage should expect either a diplomat to negotiate their release or a sniper to secure it.
