RASC News Agency: Local sources in Paktia province report the discovery of the body of a former local police officer, marking another incident in the ongoing series of targeted and mysterious killings of ex-military personnel. On Sunday, July 28, sources informed the media that the body of the former soldier, who had reportedly been detained by the Taliban two weeks prior from his home, was found in the village of Madakhil in the Samkani district.
According to these sources, a group of Taliban members had forcibly taken the former local police officer, named “Raeis,” from his home at gunpoint. During his detention, his family was unaware of his whereabouts or condition. Raeis had served as a local police officer under the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Family members noted visible signs of torture on his body, suggesting that he had died as a result of severe beatings.
Taj Mohammad Mangal, a former member of the Paktia Provincial Council, stated that after the Taliban regained control in August 2021, Reis had been living a normal life in his village, engaging in no military activities. Raeis’s relatives also confirmed that he had no known personal enemies. Meanwhile, local Taliban officials in Paktia have yet to comment on the circumstances surrounding his death.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of arrests and killings of former military personnel, with many citizens accusing the Taliban of engaging in retaliatory actions despite the announcement of a general amnesty.
