RASC News Agency: Credible sources report that Michael McCaul, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has once again criticized the humanitarian crisis and misuse of aid in Afghanistan under the Taliban’s rule. According to reports by Tolo News on Friday, Apr 12, Michael McCaul raised this issue during a congressional hearing, stating that humanitarian assistance is currently not reaching needy women and children in Afghanistan.
He added, “The chaotic withdrawal and deadly departure of American forces under the Biden administration’s supervision have created a widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, and we are grappling with it today.” The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee stated, “We have uncovered another reality that American financial assistance intended for suffering Afghanistani women and children ends up in the hands of the Taliban and their allies.”
The head of the US International Aid Organization emphasized that the misuse of aid in Afghanistan under the Taliban’s control has forced relief organizations to suspend their activities in some cases. Samantha Power, the head of the US International Aid Organization, added: “They have witnessed some of their partner organizations suspend their aid delivery process to the people of Afghanistan due to the misuse in the distribution of these aids or the failure to employ women.”
Claims of Taliban’s misuse of humanitarian aid have been published several times before, but the group has consistently denied involvement in aid distribution and stated that they only oversee the process of aid distribution. The US Special Inspector for Afghanistan Reconstruction recently released a report stating that the international community has provided nearly $3 billion in aid to Afghanistan from August 2021 to date, with $2.6 billion of that coming from the United States.
