International Amnesty: Taliban’s Treatment of Women Deemed Barbaric

RASC News Agency: In a blistering critique, Amnesty International has labeled the Taliban’s ruthless and systematic treatment of women and girls, which is impacting an entire generation in the country, as deeply concerning. Amnesty International, in a report issued today, Friday, April 5th, asserts that Afghanistan is teetering on the brink of irreversibility following the Taliban’s assumption of power.

The organization highlights in its report that over the nearly three years of Taliban governance, they have displayed no hesitation in committing acts of violence and infringing upon women’s rights, persisting particularly in their oppression of women. Furthermore, the report elaborates that the Taliban have purposefully targeted and dismantled human rights organizations, especially those championing the rights of women and girls, alleging that such entities align with democratic principles and Western ideologies.

Amnesty International has also documented instances of arbitrary detentions, forced marriages, violence, enforced disappearances, and even the killing of women by the Taliban. In addressing the Taliban’s treatment of journalists, activists, human rights defenders, artists, and religious and ethnic minorities in Afghanistan, the report calls for an end to human rights violations, retaliatory killings, and ongoing assaults on minority communities, women, and girls.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s refusal to allow girls access to education persists despite repeated appeals to cease their policy of educational deprivation. These appeals have consistently been rebuffed by the Taliban, who consider it a matter of internal policy. This pernicious policy portends a bleak future for the young and vulnerable segments of Afghanistan society.

In the wake of reports detailing the Taliban’s brutal treatment of , a women’s rights activist imprisoned, the group has attempted to sanitize her situation by disseminating a self-produced videotape.
