RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Journalists Center has released a report indicating that 139 cases of media rights violations and mistreatment of journalists have been documented this solar year. According to the report, published today, Sunday, March 17th, on the occasion of “National Journalists Day,” these incidents include 80 cases of threats and 59 cases of journalists’ detention.
In the solar year 1401, the Afghanistan Journalists Center recorded 237 cases of media rights violations and mistreatment of journalists, including the killing of one journalist and the injury of 21 others. The center’s report highlighted that this year, there have been no instances of “targeted attacks” resulting in the deaths or injuries of journalists, signaling a “positive” and “hopeful” trend.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center further added that despite a slight decrease, there has been no qualitative or structural change in media rights violations and mistreatment of journalists compared to the previous solar year.
The report mentioned: “Among the total recorded incidents in 1402, eight cases involved media work bans, including a permanent ban on a joint men and women journalism training program, closure of five local radio stations for several hours to a week, suspension of a local radio and television network for 20 days, and closure of another local radio station for five months.”
This development coincides with the Taliban’s imposition of restrictive and suppressive measures following their assumption of control over the country, leading to constraints on media and journalists’ activities and the detention and torture of some journalists.
