RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry has announced Azerbaijan’s establishment of its embassy in Afghanistan under the control of this group. In a message disseminated on Thursday, Feb 15, by Abdulqahar Balkhi, the spokesperson of the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry on the X social media platform, this matter has been highlighted.
According to this Taliban official, Ilham Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kabul, has formally delivered the letter of opening his country’s embassy to Amir Khan Muttaqi. Balkhi emphasized that it is the first occasion Azerbaijan is reopening its embassy in Kabul and dispatching diplomats to ambassadorial status in Afghanistan. Azerbaijani media had previously reported plans for the country to reopen its embassy in Kabul by 2024.
Information released on the website of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry indicates that the parliament of that country decided on December 30, 2020, to establish its embassy in Afghanistan. Azerbaijan’s decision at that time was welcomed by the former Afghanistan Foreign Ministry, yet its embassy in Kabul had not yet commenced operations.
This occurs as the Taliban, due to their failure to comply with their commitments, have not been recognized by any country to date, prompting many nations to close their embassies in Kabul and prohibit their citizens from traveling to this country.
