RASC News Agency: In response to the recent surge in the Taliban’s arrests of women in Kabul, Fawzia Koofi, a former member of the House of Representatives, voiced her apprehensions. Taking to the X social media platform, Mrs. Koofi underscored the Taliban’s stance, asserting that the group deems every woman in Afghanistan as a criminal burdened with the task of proving her innocence. She further accentuated that amid the world’s attention fixed on the Gaza conflict, the Taliban perceives a lack of scrutiny and consequently intensifies its oppression of women.

Continuing her message, Mrs. Koofi shed light on the disconcerting situation unfolding in Kabul. Disclosing that Taliban forces are apprehending numerous women from the city’s streets daily, she drew on her past roles as a House of Representatives member and a participant in the peace negotiations with the Taliban in Doha. Mrs. Koofi questioned, “Since the Taliban assumed control, over a thousand meetings have transpired with this group, but has anyone held them accountable for the commitments made during the negotiations?”

Crucially, these statements arise against the backdrop of the Taliban’s escalating violent and repressive conduct, resulting in the arrest and disappearance of numerous women in Kabul. This has elicited widespread reactions, prompting Salahuddin Rabbani, the leader of the Jamiat-e-Islami Party of Afghanistan, to call upon the United Nations and human rights organizations to take “serious action” against these arrests.
