RASC News Agency: Authorities in Iran have reported an incident in Tehran city resulting in the death of an Afghanistani worker. According to Iranian media, the collapse of a well in the Shahran area claimed the life of the laborer. On December 31st, the spokesperson for the Tehran City fire department and safety services confirmed that the worker, while digging the well, became trapped inside as it collapsed, leading to his demise.
Iranian officials have provided additional details about the incident. The Afghanistani worker, approximately 32 years old, was operating at a depth of around eight meters when the well’s wall collapsed due to loose soil. The well’s collapse caused soil to fall onto the worker’s head, completely trapping him. Despite firefighters’ efforts to rescue him, the soft and loose soil impeded their operation.
This incident occurred on private property, underscoring the challenges faced by Afghanistani citizens seeking better opportunities abroad. Many Afghanistani immigrants, including those from neighboring countries like Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey, have left their homeland due to limited job prospects and inadequate living conditions. These countries have become hosts to thousands of Afghanistani refugees who fled Afghanistan for various reasons. The Tehran incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by migrant workers in pursuit of a better life.
