RASC News Agency: Amir Majid Fakhri, the head of the Geographical Organization of the Armed Forces of Iran, addressed the media on Thursday, December 28th, regarding the strategy to secure the Afghanistan border. Fakhri underscored the organization’s responsibility to establish the necessary infrastructure for border monitoring, specifically in the area where the recent terrorist incident occurred.
He conveyed that monitoring systems are currently being installed and will be handed over to the Border Guard for operation upon completion. The Geographical Organization has been actively involved in negotiations with Afghanistan authorities to pinpoint specific locations for the border blockade, and progress has been made in resolving these discussions. Fakhri also highlighted negotiations concerning agricultural land adjacent to the Zabul border wall, ensuring Iran’s rights are upheld.
Despite recent clashes between the border guards of Afghanistan and Iran resulting in casualties on both sides, it is essential to note that Iran shares one of the longest borders with Afghanistan. This border serves as a critical route for the transportation of goods between the two countries. However, due to political tensions, there are instances when the border is temporarily closed for vehicles.
The plan to fortify the Afghanistan border aims to limit physical barriers to traffic and enhance security measures. The Geographical Organization, in collaboration with the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior, is actively working to implement this plan, ensuring the safety and smooth flow of goods across the border.
