RASC News Agency: The Taliban Group’s Ministry of Propagation of Virtue issued a statement on December 24th regarding the observance of Yalda night (Shab-e-Chella) by Afghanistani citizens. According to the ministry, celebrating Yalda night is deemed sacrilegious and sinful. They called on the populace to adhere to Islamic Sharia rules and refrain from participating in this celebration.
In their statement, the Ministry of Propagation of Virtue underscored that Yalda night bears no significance in Islam, and engaging in extravagance during this occasion is deemed inappropriate. Expressing concern over the growing popularity of this celebration among Muslim citizens, the Taliban group stated that it contradicts Islamic principles. They urged individuals to abstain from observing Yalda night and instead prioritize living their lives in accordance with the rules of Islamic Sharia.
Yalda night, also known as Shab-e-Chella, signifies the longest night of the year and marks the onset of winter. With deep roots in the ancient Nowruz civilization, it has been celebrated for millennia. Despite evolving over time, Yalda night remains a significant and cherished occasion in Afghanistan and neighboring countries. Families unite during this night to partake in traditional meals, recite poetry, and share stories. However, since the Taliban’s ascension, measures have been implemented to suppress cultural practices, including the prohibition of Nowruz celebrations.
