RASC News Agency: The Taliban governor in Herat has stated that Afghanistani youth must make efforts to acquire religious education in order to play a significant role in the progress and development of their country. He emphasized that without religious knowledge and attending school, individuals cannot make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of the nation. Furthermore, he asserted that Afghanistan has undergone an industrial revolution and stressed the need for its proper utilization.
In a public address, the Taliban governor declared: “With the group’s control over Afghanistan, an industrial revolution has taken place in the country, yet there is a shortage of skilled and professional manpower.” Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Taliban governor, argued that individuals equipped with both religious and modern knowledge can fill this gap. He made these remarks during the graduation ceremony of 400 students from the 12th grade at the Afghan-Turk High School in Herat. The governor reiterated: “With the establishment of the Taliban government, an industrial revolution has emerged in the country, and there is a pressing need for specialized and advanced professionals. Young people must strive to contribute to the nation’s prosperity by acquiring both religious and contemporary knowledge.”
This statement is particularly notable as many of Afghanistan’s educated and experienced youth have left the country, while most government positions are now occupied by Taliban members who lack adequate education. Additionally, for over three years, schools for girls above the sixth grade and all institutions of higher education have remained closed to Afghanistani women and girls. Moreover, the increasing emphasis on religious education in the curriculum of schools and universities, as mandated by the Taliban, has led many male students to abandon their studies. As a result, many have chosen to leave Afghanistan in search of a better future.
