RASC News Agency: According to reports, Qalandar Ebad, the head of the Taliban Ministry of Public Health, has urged Italy to establish a “Cancer Diagnosis Center” in Afghanistan. It is reported that Ebad made this request on Saturday, December 16th, during a meeting with Natalia Quintaville, the charge d’affaires of Italy in Kabul. As per a statement released by the Taliban Ministry of Public Health on the X social media platform, Qalandar Ebad has also sought Italy’s collaboration in providing health services for recently expelled Afghanistani migrants from Pakistan.
The ministry of the Taliban group additionally stated that the Italian embassy official, in this meeting, affirmed the continuity of their country’s humanitarian assistance to the health sector in Afghanistan. This development occurs at a time when, under the control of the Taliban group in Afghanistan, the health sector, among other areas, grapples with various challenges, including stringent policies and a lack of adequate facilities.
Reports suggest that most health centers in the country, due to corruption and a shortage of medical staff, are struggling to sustain operations, thereby hindering access to healthcare services, particularly for citizens in remote areas. It is noteworthy that the scarcity of qualified doctors in the country is one of the challenges affecting the healthcare system, necessitating patients to seek treatment abroad, incurring substantial expenses.
Meanwhile, the imposition of restrictions and constraints on the work and activities of certain international organizations, combined with their diminished involvement in the country, exacerbates this issue further.
