RASC News Agency: Following the renewed control of the Taliban group over Afghanistan and the imposition of restrictions on women and girls in the country, SIGAR (Special Inspector General for Afghanistan) has recently reported an increase in forced and underage marriages in Afghanistan.
SIGAR stated on Monday, October 23th, citing the United Nations report, that after 2021, 35% of girls in Afghanistan have been forced into marriage before the age of 18, and 17% have been forced into marriage before the age of 15.
On the other hand, the women’s movement for peace and freedom had previously stated that women and girls in Afghanistan have faced severe punishments in the past two years, such as execution, stoning, flogging, forced marriage, and deprivation of freedom.
It is worth mentioning that UNICEF had stated that most mothers and fathers consider marriage as the best option for their young daughters.
This comes at a time when the people of Afghanistan are experiencing a deteriorating economic situation in the past two years, leading many fathers to marry off their young daughters to older men for economic reasons.
It must be said that Afghanistan is a country where girls are always forced into child marriages, but in the past two years, the number of these marriages has increased due to excessive restrictions.
According to the obtained reports, Taliban members have continued to force and marry underage girls.
It should be noted that the Taliban group has always neglected the rights of women and girls in this country, while imposing the most severe restrictions on them.
Currently Afghanistan is the only country where girls are not allowed to attend school.
