RASC News Agency: The Global Food Program has recently released statistics indicating that two-thirds of Afghanistan’s population, which is equivalent to four million tons of food, including 3.2 million children, are suffering from severe malnutrition and are in need of multiple humanitarian aids by 2023.
According to a report issued by the program on Thursday, October 19, a total of 16.8 million tons of food assistance have been provided by the organization in Afghanistan since the beginning of this year.
The report from the Global Food Program states that 15.3 million tons of food in Afghanistan have been severely affected by food insecurity since May of this year, and among them, 2.8 million fall under the classification of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).
While poverty threatens the lives of millions in Afghanistan, the Global Food Program has been forced to remove 10 million tons from its humanitarian aid program.
The organization highlights that 50 to 30 percent of households are unable to provide meals for their families, emphasizing the ongoing need for sustained humanitarian assistance to prevent malnutrition.
The Global Food Program further emphasizes the urgent need for $400 million to provide immediate aid to the seven million most vulnerable individuals.
Meanwhile, with the onset of winter in Afghanistan and the prevailing crisis situation, numerous humanitarian organizations have already reported a reduction in humanitarian aid due to budget cuts.
This comes as the Taliban’s control over the country has led to a significant increase in unemployment and poverty among many households.
