RASC News Agency: Stephen Dujarric, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has voiced grave concerns over the insufficient financial resources allocated to provide assistance to the victims of the devastating Herat earthquake.
To address this pressing issue, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid has announced the apportionment of a substantial sum of five million dollars to aid the victims affected by the Herat earthquake. This significant financial commitment was pledged on October 9.
As elucidated in the United Nations newsletter, the disbursement process for this allocated amount has commenced since October 9, with the primary focus being on providing aid and support to the injured individuals grappling with the aftermath of the earthquake.
According to Dujarric, our dedicated personnel are currently prioritizing the assessment of the most essential requirements of the Afghanistani people, encompassing the acquisition of vital facilities and resources from external sources.
Dujarric acknowledged the daunting nature of providing assistance in Afghanistan and lamented the lack of available resources despite repeated appeals for humanitarian aid. Nevertheless, he remains resolute in his commitment to make every effort possible to assist those in need.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations has persistently highlighted the dearth of funds available to sustain support for the people of Afghanistan. Furthermore, numerous international aid organizations have issued warnings regarding potential budget cuts that could further exacerbate the dire situation. The World Food Program has also raised concerns about the looming risk of famine in Afghanistan.
Consequently, the intersecting crises in Afghanistan, compounded by the recent earthquake in Herat province, have dramatically magnified the number of individuals requiring urgent humanitarian aid and assistance.
