RASC News Agency: The recent earthquake in Herat has garnered attention from the World Health Organization (WHO), which has issued a statement revealing that a majority of the victims are women and children. Dr. Alaa Abuzaid, a representative from the WHO, personally visited Herat and shared with Reuters news agency that the earthquake occurred on Saturday around 11:00 a.m., a time when most men were outside their homes. Consequently, the casualties predominantly consist of women and children who were present at their residences during the incident.
Dr. Abuzaid further disclosed that two-thirds of the individuals currently hospitalized with severe injuries are children and women. He expressed deep concern after witnessing the critical condition of numerous children in the hospital, recounting a heartbreaking incident where a 3-4 month-old infant was struck on the head during the earthquake.
Several districts within Herat suffered immense devastation due to the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks on Saturday, resulting in substantial damage. While the published statistics suggest around 4,000 victims at present, the precise number of fatalities and injuries is yet to be determined.
The Taliban group has declared that the final figures will be revealed once the search and rescue operation is concluded. Since the earthquake struck the Zinda jan district on Saturday morning, numerous charitable organizations, individuals, and countries worldwide have expressed their willingness to provide assistance to the affected individuals and victims of this natural disaster.
