RASC News Agency: The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMA) in response to the arrest of two protesting women in Kabul over the past week by the Taliban group said that the continuous arrests of people just because of using their rights for the purpose of freedom of speech and expression of opinion. The severity of the matter is worrying and in conflict with Afghanistan’s international human rights obligations.
On Friday night, September 29, UNAMA said by publishing a statement, that it calls on the ruling authorities of the Taliban group in Kabul to stop arbitrary arrests, which are in conflict with international laws.
This organization pointed to the arrests of Nida Parwani and Zhulia Parsi, members of her own movement, Afghanistani Women’s Protesters, journalist Mortaza Behbodi, educational activist Matiullah Wisa, and writer Rasul Parsi, and demanded the release of these people as soon as possible.
The United Nations Deputy Delegation further added: “UNAMA calls on the ruling authorities in Kabul to end the process of arbitrary arrests and ensure that all detainees have access to family, defense lawyers and health care and their rights be fairly supported.”
The Taliban group has not yet said anything about the arrest of these protesting women from Kabul and other detainees.
This is despite the fact that the Taliban group, since regaining control of the country, has arrested women protestors, civilians and soldiers of the previous government.
In the latest case, this group arrested Zhulia Parsi, the leader of the Spontaneous Movement of Afghanistani Women Protesters, from Kabul; an action that has been met with widespread reactions.
