RASC: The Nutrition Department of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan has announced that counseling for breastfeeding mothers is necessary.
Milani Galvin, head of the nutrition department of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, on Tuesday, August 1, in a tweet on “Breastfeeding Week”, emphasized its importance in order to prevent acute malnutrition.
He added that as long as mothers can breastfeed their children, it will help us to do better in preventing acute malnutrition.
Meanwhile, UNICEF said that the work of female consultants and staff is also essential and vital to support breastfeeding mothers in the nutrition sector.
Statistics provided by UNICEF show that only 63% of children in Afghanistan are breastfed in the first six months of their lives.
This institution emphasized that children should only be fed breast milk in the first six months of their lives.
The first seven days of August have been named as “Breastfeeding Week” and UNICEF, the World Health Organization and other international organizations active in this field emphasize the importance of feeding children with breast milk and its role in preventing child malnutrition.
At the same time, the world health organizations, along with children, have said that the living conditions for mothers in Afghanistan are worrisome and have expressed concern about the possibility of an increase in maternal and infant mortality in Afghanistan.
