RASC: Based on the statements of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Afghanistan, the drought in this country has increased the degree of poverty.
On Wednesday, June 21, Roza Otunbaeva, the special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Afghanistan, said at the organization’s meeting that the issue of drought and increasing poverty causes the people of Afghanistan to face food insecurity.
She believes that in order to prevent the problems of climate change, it is necessary for the international community to communicate with the Taliban group.
These concerns are raised while some farmers in the country have reported an unprecedented decrease in the yield of field wheat cultivation due to the drought in the country.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology and the Ministry of Transport and Aviation under the administration of the Taliban group have reported an increase in extreme heat during the months of (Saratan) and (Asad) in some provinces in the north, south, east and west of the country.
It should be noted that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) warned last year that Afghanistan is facing a climate change crisis caused by increased heat and decreased rainfall.
According to this department, on average, in the last 70 years, the temperature in Afghanistan has increased by 1.8 degrees Celsius.
According to reports, currently 21 million citizens of the country do not have access to safe drinking water.
It should be mentioned that these droughts and increased heat have caused the loss of many agricultural products, including wheat, in the country, which increases the level of poverty.
