RASC: The World Bank has said in its annual report that poverty is widespread in Afghanistan and almost the entire population does not have enough food due to insufficient income.
Some South Asian economies, including Afghanistan, have suffered significant domestic shocks, and deep crises continue to undermine their growth, the report said.
According to the World Bank’s forecast in South Asia, economic growth may slow to 5.9 percent in 2023 and then to 5.1 percent in 2024.
At the same time, the World Bank said in its annual report that the economic outlook in Afghanistan has stabilized with the return of aid flows and production growth is expected to be positive in the next two years.
In the report of the World Bank, there is no statistics on the percentage of the negative economic growth of Afghanistan in the past years and this year.
Afghanistan’s economy collapsed after the Taliban regained control and cut off foreign aid, and poverty and hunger increased.
Global economic growth is projected to slow from 3.1 percent in 2022 to 2.1 percent in 2023.
“The surest way to reduce poverty and expand prosperity is through employment, and slower growth makes job creation much more difficult,” says Ajay Banga, president of the World Bank.
