Michael McCall: The Taliban will not be Recognized Without Respect for Human Rights

RASC: Michael McCall, the chairman of the US House Foreign Relations Committee, says that the Taliban will not be recognized by the United States until they respect human rights and change their treatment of women.

He made these statements yesterday, Wednesday, May 17, in an interview with the Voice of America.

McCall said: “Our message to the Taliban is that if they want to be recognized, they must treat women as equals, not as their possessions. In this case, we have a very strong position.”

He has emphasized that both parties in the US Congress oppose the legitimacy of the Taliban without respecting the group’s human rights.

After nearly two years have passed since the Taliban took control of Kabul, no country has recognized this group as the government of Afghanistan.

The Taliban group’s actions against women and girls are considered one of the reasons why this group has not been recognized until now.

Currently, women in Afghanistan do not have the right to education, study and work; they also face serious limitations in sightseeing and coverage.
