Taliban Enforce Nighttime Curfews in Badghis: Severe Restrictions Imposed on Residents

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Badghis province report that Taliban authorities have imposed strict nighttime curfews across several districts, significantly restricting freedom of movement. The Taliban have established roadblocks and initiated nightly patrols, intensifying harassment and further tightening the already constrained liberties of local residents. According to a source, Taliban officials in the Qadis district have instructed residents to avoid leaving their homes after 9 PM unless they have a “valid religious excuse.”

A letter issued by the Taliban’s provincial police command confirms this directive, stating that anyone found outdoors or on the streets after 9 PM will be detained and interrogated. Local sources suggest this decision follows an incident in which unidentified individuals threw a hand grenade at the Qadis district’s administrative building before fleeing. The Taliban have yet to provide details about the incident or identify those responsible. Similar nighttime restrictions have been imposed in other districts of Badghis, further limiting residents’ ability to attend to their daily needs or manage personal affairs.

The Taliban’s actions stand in stark contrast to their repeated assertions of having established comprehensive security across Afghanistan. The group has frequently claimed that no armed factions exist within the country capable of disrupting public order. However, ongoing clashes with opposition forces, particularly the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, undermine these claims. In its latest report, the Resistance Front stated that its fighters have eliminated more than 500 Taliban combatants in a series of operations, underscoring the persistent instability and the growing resistance against Taliban rule.
