RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Fayeq, Afghanistan’s interim representative to the United Nations, has recently asserted that global engagement with the Taliban must be contingent upon the group’s performance in combating terrorism and upholding human rights, especially the rights of women and girls. Fayeq made these remarks on Wednesday, Mar 6, during a session of the United Nations Security Council, adding that the Afghanistani people are concerned about the normalization of relations or interactions with the Taliban without a change in the group’s behavior.

He further emphasized that no concessions should be granted to the Taliban due to the “gender apartheid” in Afghanistan. Fayeq emphasized that only a comprehensive and inclusive political system following a national dialogue will ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan. Given the worsening situation in Afghanistan under the Taliban’s rule, the Afghanistani diplomat urged the Security Council to take coordinated actions.

Prior to Fayeq’s statement in the month of February, the Security Council had expressed opposition to any form of global community engagement with the Taliban. According to him, the Taliban, upon regaining control of Afghanistan, have extensively violated citizens’ rights, particularly those of women.
