According to sources, the incident occurred last night Friday, October 18, in the Nazarabad area of the 17th district. The victim, identified as Popal, was 18 years old and had married a young woman just two weeks prior. The source revealed that Popal was stabbed to death by his wife and her former boyfriend. Another source indicated that the motive behind the murder was domestic violence, as the wife had been forced into the marriage without her consent.
Siddiqullah Qureshi, the Taliban’s head of information and culture in Nangarhar, confirmed the killing and reported the arrest of both the woman and her former boyfriend. Qureshi stated that the woman, Popal’s wife, had previously been in a relationship with the other man. Both suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. This incident underscores the devastating consequences of forced marriages and domestic violence, which continue to plague Afghanistani society. Women and girls are frequently the victims of such violence.
