RASC News Agency: A coalition of Afghanistani migrants, human rights activists, women’s rights advocates, members of civil society, journalists, and former military personnel have sent a letter titled “Kind Letter” to Iran’s President, Massoud Pzeshkian, urging him to halt the forced deportation of Afghanistani migrants from the country. This group has launched a nationwide campaign titled “Stop the Forced Deportation of Afghanistani Migrants from Iran,” with the aim of advocating for the rights of their fellow citizens.
The letter states: “Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, the political and security situation in the country has severely deteriorated. Many individuals with backgrounds in government, military, security, media, and international organizations especially former military personnel and journalists face grave risks of persecution, torture, and even execution.” The migrants and human rights advocates have addressed the Iranian President, highlighting that certain crimes committed by individuals within the migrant population are unjustly generalized, thereby negatively impacting the entire community. Crime is a personal matter and should not be attributed to the whole migrant community or any specific group.
These activists emphasize that the Taliban are actively seeking to identify and punish individuals associated with the previous government, foreign institutions, or cultural and social activities that conflict with their ideology. The letter further references the 1951 Geneva Convention and the 1967 Protocol, asserting that no refugee or migrant should be returned to a country where they face the risk of persecution and harm.
Meanwhile, many human rights activists, journalists, former military members, and civil society representatives from Afghanistan fled the country after the Taliban’s return to power, initially seeking refuge in Western nations and subsequently migrating to Iran. However, many of them continue to live in uncertainty, with their immigration cases unresolved.
