Protesting Women: Urging the International Community for Immediate Action Against Taliban Rule

RASC News Agency: A group of protesting women, in response to the Taliban’s repressive laws, has called upon the international community, particularly the United States, to take urgent action to end the group’s dominance in the country. On Saturday, September 21, they issued a resolution holding the United Nations and the U.S. accountable for the current situation in Afghanistan. The resolution states: “The international community, especially the United Nations and the United States, which consistently positions itself as a guardian of peace, global security, democracy, and human values, must act by dismantling the Taliban regime and establishing a people-centered, justice-oriented government to rescue Afghanistan from the grips of ignorance and extremism.”

These women have further urged the global community, particularly the United States, to cease any financial and political support for the Taliban and to collaborate with the citizens of the country in forming an inclusive government based on the will of the people. They emphasize their commitment to fight against the Taliban until a government is established that reflects the people’s vote.

Among their demands is accountability from the international community regarding the current situation in Afghanistan, the non-recognition of the Taliban, the referral of its officials to the International Criminal Court for their crimes, and the urgent intervention of the United Nations to alter the existing conditions in the country. During this time, the Taliban have issued a series of decrees imposing severe restrictions on citizens, particularly targeting ethnic and religious minorities, as well as women and girls. Human rights advocates assert that, despite repeated calls from human rights organizations, the international community has failed to hold the Taliban accountable for their actions.

Recently, several women’s movements reacted to the endorsement of the Taliban’s Law on Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, stating that the international community, especially Islamic countries, must pressure this group to acknowledge women’s rights in the country.
