Taliban Assault Shopkeeper in Khost

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Khost Province report that Taliban forces recently assaulted a shopkeeper for failing to display the white flag on his shop. According to sources, the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, August 14, in an area of Khost City. The sources identified the young man as Ghani, who was working in his grocery store when Taliban forces attacked him.

After the assault, the Taliban forces blindfolded Ghani and took him into custody. This incident exemplifies the Taliban’s harsh enforcement of their orders during their three years in power, marked by the imposition of severe regulations on civilians across various provinces, leading to beatings, arrests, and, in some cases, executions. Notably, just a day prior, the Taliban had issued a warning to all shopkeepers in Khost Province and several other regions to raise the white flag on their shops in commemoration of August 14.

Wednesday, August 14, marked the third anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover of the country, a day the group observed in various provinces, including Kabul and Bagram military base in Parwan Province. While the Taliban celebrate this day, the citizens of the country recall it as a dark chapter in their history, a day when the hopes and dreams of the people, particularly women and girls, were shattered.

As the Taliban celebrate their third year in power, numerous reports have emerged highlighting the rising levels of poverty, unemployment, and the increasing number of people in need and fleeing the country.
