Heavy Snowfall Severely Disrupts Transportation Across Afghanistan Provinces

RASC News Agency: Intense snowfall has reportedly severed road connections in several districts across the provinces of Maidan Wardak, Bamiyan, Ghazni, Daykundi, and other mountainous regions of Afghanistan. Sources on Sunday, January 19, confirmed that heavy snow had blocked access to districts including Behsud, Daimirdad, Chak, and Chaghatu in Maidan Wardak. In Bamiyan, the Taliban’s Department of Public Works announced that road links to seven districts have been completely cut off. Similarly, in Daykundi, the Taliban’s provincial media office reported that all district roads leading to Nili, the provincial capital, are now impassable due to heavy snowfall.

In Ghazni, the districts of Jaghori, Malistan, Ajristan, Nawah, and Giro have also been rendered inaccessible. Compounding the crisis, several major highways across the country have been closed since yesterday, creating nationwide transportation challenges. The Afghanistani people continue to face overwhelming difficulties during the harsh winter months. Widespread poverty and unemployment, combined with freezing temperatures, have created insurmountable hardships for many families. Reports indicate that a significant number of households cannot afford to heat their children’s rooms, leaving them vulnerable to the biting cold.

Over three years into the Taliban’s rule, life for the population has grown increasingly unbearable. The group has dismissed the majority of former government employees, replacing them with clerics and loyalists, while failing to disburse pensions and salaries to thousands of retired and former civil servants. This financial neglect has further deepened the suffering of Afghanistani citizens. The relentless winter conditions underscore the plight of Afghanistan’s population under Taliban rule, as basic needs and economic stability remain out of reach for millions. The combination of administrative incompetence and oppressive governance continues to erode hope for relief or progress.
