Taliban Punish a Woman and a Man in Kabul

RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that the group recently lashed a woman and a man in Kabul on charges of extramarital sexual relations. According to a statement released by the Taliban’s court on Wednesday, August 7, the woman received 32 lashes, while the man received 39 lashes.

The statement mentioned that the sentences were carried out by the primary court in the Istalif district after being confirmed by the Taliban’s Supreme Court. It is worth noting that in a recent incident of punishing the accused, the Taliban previously lashed two individuals in Kabul province on similar charges of extramarital sexual relations.

Over the past three years of their rule, the Taliban have repeatedly flogged individuals across the country for alleged offenses such as theft, bribery, extramarital sexual relations, fraud, and alcohol sales. Furthermore, the Taliban’s Supreme Court has also issued imprisonment sentences for some accused individuals, enforcing flogging sentences with severity and strictness.

Opponents of the Taliban’s use of flogging argue that such punishments violate human rights and human dignity. They added that physical punishments are not only ethically unacceptable but also have negative impacts on the mental and social health of both the convicted individuals and the broader society. The Taliban’s actions demonstrate a disregard for the well-being of the people, focusing instead on implementing their violent policies and instilling fear.
