RASC News Agency: According to local sources, Dr. Ghulam Dastgir Siddiqui, a former adviser to Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation under the previous Afghanistani government, has been detained by the Taliban in Kapisa Province. Reports indicate that Dr. Siddiqui and his son were arrested three days ago at their residence in the village of Karizi, located in the Hesa Duwum Kohistan district. Sources revealed that Dr. Siddiqui had been employed by the Taliban’s Directorate of Public Health in Kapisa. The reasons behind his detention remain undisclosed, and the Taliban have yet to issue any official statement regarding the matter.
This incident follows the Taliban’s recent detention of one of Abdullah Abdullah’s former bodyguards, along with his brother, in Kabul. The two brothers, identified as Mujib and Najmuddin, are originally from Dara district in Panjshir Province but were residing in Kabul at the time of their arrest. Observers note that several of Abdullah’s close associates were reportedly misled by him and failed to leave Afghanistan following the Taliban’s resurgence. Sources confirm to RASC News Agency that when Abdullah’s associates approached him for advice on leaving the country, he reassured them by saying, “There’s no issue; these individuals are trustworthy and our allies.”
However, media reports now reveal that the Taliban have intensified their crackdown on Abdullah’s affiliates, arresting several of his former confidants. Many Afghanistani citizens believe that Abdullah’s true nature has remained obscure to the public. They argue that he was an enigmatic and unprepared figure during the two decades of the republic and has continued this trend after the Taliban’s return to power. Critics highlight his decision to remain in Kabul and his attempts to cultivate friendly ties with the Taliban as evidence of his controversial stance.
