As of Monday, August 5, approximately 600 Afghanistani female students currently in Bangladesh are expressing concern about their safety and security.
These students have been pursuing their studies in Bangladesh for several years. According to sources, these students have been out of contact with their families for several days due to an internet outage. The sources also point out that there is no diplomatic channel available to address the issues faced by these students.
The sources add, “These young women are unable to return to Afghanistan due to fears that the Taliban might obstruct their return.” This situation follows a month of intense student protests in Bangladesh, which resulted in the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday. The protests, which initially began over issues related to job quotas in the public sector, escalated into violence, leading to over 270 fatalities.
