RASC News Agency: The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan claims its forces recently launched an attack on a Taliban checkpoint in Herat province. According to a statement released by the Front on Saturday, August 3, the attack occurred last night on the road behind Herat Airport in the Guzara district of the province.
The National Resistance Front’s statement details that three members of the Taliban’s intelligence unit, including the deputy head of the Border Discovery Unit, “Mawlawi Nematullah Arzghani,” were killed in the assault. The statement further asserts that the National Resistance Front suffered no casualties during the attack and managed to seize a Taliban weapon. Local Taliban officials in Herat have yet to comment on the National Resistance Front’s claims. This incident follows previous reports from the Front about similar attacks on Taliban forces.
Recently, Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, emphasized in an interview with the British magazine “The Spectator” the increasing frequency of the Front’s attacks against the Taliban, particularly in various cities including Kabul. Massoud stated, “I am 100% confident that defeating the Taliban is possible.” However, Massoud noted that the National Resistance Front requires “adequate support,” weapons, and resources to defeat the Taliban and establish a democratic republic that derives its legitimacy from the people.
Since its inception, the National Resistance Front has not received military aid from any country. Massoud has repeatedly highlighted in interviews that the Front fights against the Taliban, who possess over seven billion dollars’ worth of American weaponry, “with bare hands.”
