RASC News Agency: The British government has announced plans to relocate hundreds of Afghanistani citizens who collaborated with British forces, transferring them to the United Kingdom in the coming weeks. The BBC reported that a public meeting in Lincolnshire was recently convened to discuss the resettlement of these Afghanistani evacuees. According to the report, Afghanistani nationals who worked alongside British armed forces are being transferred to the UK to shield them from potential Taliban persecution.
The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that approximately 200 Afghanistani nationals, including their families, will be temporarily accommodated at Camp Buckingham. In a statement, the Ministry noted that the initial group of Afghanistani citizens is expected to arrive by mid-November, with the camp anticipated to reach full capacity by early December. The Ministry also clarified that the camp is intended as temporary housing, with some Afghanistani citizens scheduled for relocation to other facilities within the UK.
The BBC further reported that over 15,000 individuals were evacuated from Kabul to the UK during a two-week span in August 2021. This group included British nationals and over 6,000 Afghanistani citizens who had worked in collaboration with British forces. The UK previously evacuated other Afghanistani allies who had worked with the British Embassy and armed forces in Afghanistan. Following the Taliban’s return to power, several European nations also took action to evacuate their Afghanistani collaborators, citing heightened safety risks under Taliban rule and accelerating their relocation efforts out of Afghanistan.
