RASC News Agency: The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, in a congratulatory message regarding the election victory of Masoud Pezeshkian as Iran’s new president, expressed hope that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its traditional support and cooperation with Afghanistani refugees.
In its statement, the council noted perceptible shifts in Iran’s strategic policy concerning the current illegitimate rule in Afghanistan. “We believe that Mr. Pezeshkian’s administration will pay attention to this important matter,” the statement said. The statement added, “With the prolonged tenure of the Taliban, the growth of terrorist groups in Afghanistan increases, posing a threat to the region and the world.”
The National Resistance Council emphasized the shared religious, cultural, and linguistic ties between Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that the two countries share in each other’s joys and sorrows. Previously, the Iranian government had spoken of its good relations with the Taliban, with Iranian officials referring to the Taliban as friends. Simultaneously, the National Resistance Front, led by Ahmad Massoud, operates and maintains an office in Mashhad, Iran.
The Iranian government has repeatedly called on the Taliban to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan, involving various ethnic groups. However, the Taliban have insisted that their government is inclusive and consider this an internal matter. Despite this, the Taliban are striving to maintain cordial relations with Iran.
It is worth noting that Masoud Pezeshkian was elected as the ninth president of Iran, winning the majority of votes in the second round of the presidential election. The new Pezeshkian administration has received congratulations from prominent figures of the previous Afghanistan government, as well as from the Taliban.
