RASC News Agency: Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states have stressed the urgent need for an inclusive government in Afghanistan, now under Taliban control. On Thursday, July 4th, TASS News Agency reported that the leaders highlighted the necessity of forming a government with comprehensive representation from all ethnic and political groups as the sole avenue to achieving lasting peace in Afghanistan.

In a joint statement, the SCO member states declared their willingness to support endeavors aimed at stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan. “The member states express their readiness to support the international community’s efforts to ensure peace and development in this country,” the statement affirmed. The SCO summit commenced on Wednesday and will continue for two days under the theme “Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue – Striving for Peace and Sustainable Development.”

The summit sees the participation of leaders and representatives from Russia, Kazakhstan, India, Iran, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Turkmenistan. Despite having economic and diplomatic ties with the Taliban, none of these countries have recognized the group officially.

Since the Taliban’s ascension to power in Afghanistan, no representative from the Taliban-led administration has been allowed to participate in SCO meetings.
