RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that the group recently punished an individual in Paktika province. According to a statement released by the Taliban’s Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 3, the individual was accused of committing “sodomy.”
The statement indicated that the accused was subjected to 20 lashes, but it did not specify whether the individual was also sentenced to imprisonment. The Taliban’s Supreme Court stated that the sentence was carried out after being confirmed by the appellate court’s criminal division in Paktika.
Despite widespread criticism, public corporal punishment of accused individuals by the Taliban has significantly increased in various provinces. In recent incidents, the Taliban punished several individuals in Uruzgan, Badghis, and Panjshir provinces on various charges and invited the public to witness the punishments.
Furthermore, in some provinces, the Taliban have forced businesses to close and compelled people at gunpoint to watch the punishments, confiscating their smartphones to prevent recording.
