RASC News Agency: Local sources in Bamyan province report that the Taliban have recently shut down the “Baran Institute of Health Sciences.” According to sources on Monday, June 10, the Taliban closed the institute after students whistled during a speech by Abdullah Sarhadi, the Taliban-appointed governor, at a graduation ceremony.

Sources stated that the entrance to the health institute has been sealed, and the head of the institute was arrested by officials from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and the intelligence agency in Bamyan. The Taliban governor attended the graduation ceremony on June 9 and delivered a speech, according to the sources.

Some students at the Baran Institute of Health Sciences clapped and whistled during Abdullah Sarhadi’s speech. In their nearly three-year rule, the Taliban have imposed numerous restrictions on education, particularly for female students. The group has banned girls above the sixth grade from attending school, a move that has sparked widespread domestic and international criticism.
