RASC News Agency: General Frank McKenzie, former commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), has stated that Washington made “the worst negotiation mistakes” in the Doha Agreement with the Taliban. The retired American general expressed this view on June 2 in an interview with CBS News, challenging the U.S. government’s handling of the Doha Agreement.
He asserted that the Doha Agreement was an “operational mechanism” that led to the “destruction of the Afghanistan government.” In this television interview, McKenzie described the agreement as the worst negotiating error, managed by the Trump administration and subsequently implemented under President Joe Biden. McKenzie’s comments come as the third Doha meeting, involving the Taliban and supported by the U.S., is scheduled to take place in the Qatari capital within a month.
Although nearly three years have passed since the Taliban’s takeover, the group has not been recognized by any country due to widespread human rights violations and failure to adhere to the Doha Agreement. Additionally, the Taliban have not been invited to many international meetings concerning Afghanistan due to their lack of international legitimacy.
