RASC News Agency: Following the arrest of journalists by the Taliban group, the Afghanistan Journalists’ Center has confirmed that 13 journalists are currently imprisoned in the prisons of this group.
This statistic was presented by the Center of Journalists after the arrest of Mohammad Hussain Walaiati, an Iranian news photographer, and it was said that now the number of journalists and media workers imprisoned in Taliban prisons has reached 13.
The provincial Taliban group arrested the photographer and editor of Iran’s Tasnim news agency on Saturday August 19, when he was returning to Iran, at the Kabul airport.
Based on Tasnim’s statements, the security forces of the Taliban group have arrested the photographer of this media without any explanation, and efforts to release him have been unsuccessful.
The Center of Afghanistan Journalists has expressed concern over the arrest of Mohammad Hussain Walaiati and demanded the release of this news photographer.
This center asked the officials of the Taliban group to stop the process of arresting and harassing journalists in Afghanistan.
According to this center, in the last two weeks, at least 11 journalists have been arrested in different regions of the country, among them nine people are still in prison.
The information of the Afghanistan Journalists’ Center indicates that at least four other journalists who were arrested in recent months are also in prison, which brings the total number of journalists and media workers who are currently imprisoned in the country to 13.
It is not yet clear why all these journalists were arrested and the Taliban authorities have not said anything in this regard.
Meanwhile, with the increase in arrests of journalists, Khairullah Khairkhwa, Acting Minister of Information and Culture of the Taliban group, said that no violence against journalists was recorded in the country last year.
Meanwhile, contrary to the statement of the official of the group, after this group regained control over Afghanistan, violence against women, girls and the media has increased significantly.
