RASC News Agency: Some residents of Herat Province in western Afghanistan express concern over the air pollution caused by brick kilns, linking it to the rise in respiratory and eye diseases in the city. Abdullah, a resident of Herat Province, conveyed to RASC News Agency today, Monday, May 13th, that the presence of brick kilns and the emissions from their fuel are carcinogenic, igniting significant worry among Herat residents.
He noted that when these kilns are operational, black smoke blankets the local skyline, making it difficult for residents to breathe. Abdullah further stated that Taliban officials prioritize monetary gain, neglecting to address this issue. Similarly, Ehsan, another resident of Herat Province, urged Taliban authorities to promptly intervene to control such activities.
He emphasized that all emissions from brick kilns pose health risks to residents, necessitating immediate action. Meanwhile, Ahmad Farid, the owner of a brick kiln in Herat Province, assured RASC News Agency that these kilns are not situated in residential areas that would endanger people.
He emphasized that these brick kilns have long been part of the area and any issues arising will be addressed with necessary measures. Additionally, Aref Hakimi, a civil activist in Herat Province, highlighted to RASC News Agency that alongside smoggy regions, the presence of brick kilns is a pressing societal concern demanding attention.
He further warned that the emission of smoke from brick kilns in densely populated areas could lead to numerous health issues. Hakimi pointed out that currently, the highest incidences of respiratory and carcinogenic diseases are attributed to the presence of public baths and brick kilns. Local Taliban officials have yet to comment on this matter.
