RASC News Agency: Several Afghanistani citizens who traveled to Iran with valid passports and visas report that despite possessing “legal documents,” they have been detained and deported by Iranian security forces. These individuals state that obtaining an Iranian visa costs at least 8,000 kabuli rupees, the local currency of Afghanistan.
Afghanistani citizens further assert that while their Iranian visas should be valid throughout the country, Iranian consulates in Afghanistani cities refuse to issue visas to Afghanistanis. Meanwhile, officials from the Directorate of Foreign Affairs in Herat Province and the Islam Qala Commission confirm that the deportation of Afghanistani migrants with passports and legal documents from Iran continues.
Reports from two weeks ago indicated that over 2,000 migrants were deported from Iran. Similar numbers have been reported for deportations from Pakistan. Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, many people migrated to Iran and Pakistan. After a period, both countries began repatriating these migrants.
Notably, in the past two months alone, thousands of migrants have been expelled from Iran and Pakistan. While most of these were undocumented migrants, recent reports indicate that even those with legal documents have been detained in Iran. Many suggest that the deportation of migrants from Iran is based on a secret agreement between the Taliban and Iran.
Additionally, there are reports that the Taliban are scrutinizing returning migrants from Iran, detaining some on various charges. Migrants from the northern regions who are expelled from Iran are reportedly under Taliban surveillance.
