RASC News Agency: Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Afghanistan, has characterized the nation’s situation as intricate. Autonbayeva broached this matter on Sunday, the May 12, during a meeting with Ali Baqeri Kani, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The UN Special Representative emphasized the imperative for regional and trans-regional actors to endeavor to resolve this intricate scenario under the dominance of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Otunbayeva implored Tehran to collaborate in this endeavor. IRNA News Agency reports that Ali Baqeri Kani articulated in this meeting his desire for international organizations active in Afghanistan to redirect their focus towards enhancing the security and welfare of Afghanistani citizens.
Kani underscored, “International organizations should channel their efforts towards ensuring the security and augmenting the welfare of the Afghanistani populace following the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan.” Since the Taliban regained control of the country, the social, political, and economic landscape has steadily deteriorated.
Although nearly three years have elapsed since the Taliban assumed power, no nation has formally recognized the regime of this group. Moreover, currently, close to 23 million Afghanistani citizens are reliant on assistance from international humanitarian organizations.
Furthermore, in the past month of November, Ms. Otunbayeva also voiced concerns about the restrictions imposed on women and girls by the Taliban in the country. At that time, the UN Special Representative emphasized that the fundamental rights of half of Afghanistan’s population have been violated by the Taliban.
