RASC News Agency: The Universal Periodic Review Working Group of the United Nations Human Rights Council announced it will convene a session next week to review Afghanistan’s human rights reports for the fourth time. According to a statement released by the UN Human Rights Council, the meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 29, in Geneva.
Afghanistan is among 14 countries under review by the UN working group from April 29 to May 10. The Council’s statement noted that the review will include “the national report of the country under review, reports from independent human rights experts and groups, and information from human rights institutions and civil society organizations.”
The 55th annual session of the UN Human Rights Council was held in early March last year. During that session, the UN Special Rapporteur presented a report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan under Taliban control. His report underscored the systematic and widespread human rights violations committed by the Taliban against women and girls, as well as ethnic and religious minorities.
Richard Bennett, in his report, called for investigations into the Taliban’s crimes against women at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
