RASC: According to public sources in Zabul province, the Taliban group in this province has banned the use of Pakistani rupees in daily transactions and has told people in this province to use Kabuli/Afghani rupees in their transactions from now on.
The people, however, welcome this action and say that this action of the Taliban group will make them face many problems, including the lack of Kabuli/Afghani rupees in the markets of Zabul.
Gul Mohammad a businessperson says that due to the lack of Kabuli/Afghani rupees in the Zabul market, all goods are bought and sold in Pakistani rupees.
Jumagol, who is a food seller in Zabul market, told RASC: “We welcome this action, but this order should have been issued when there was a liquidity of Kabuli/Afghani rupees in the market. If Kabuli/Afghani rupees are not sold enough by the Taliban group in the market, instead of benefiting from this action, we will suffer losses and it will increase the price of food items.”
According to economic experts, if this decision of the Taliban group is implemented seriously and enough liquidity of Kabuli/Afghani rupees is released to the market, it will increase the strength and value of Kabuli/Afghani rupees, but if there is not enough liquidity in the market, it will cause a monetary crisis in the market.
Reports state that in the border areas of Nangarhar, Khost, Paktika and Kandahar provinces, domestic markets are traded with Pakistani rupees and in Nimroz and Farah provinces with Iranian Tomans.
This is despite the fact that the challenge of using the monetary units of other countries, especially the Pakistani Kaldar, has been present in various provinces of the country for a long time, and in some of these provinces, citizens are not even familiar with Kabuli/Afghani rupees.
