Afghanistan’s Green Movement Denounces Taliban’s Claim of 100,000 Military Forces as Fiction

RASC News Agency: The Green Trend, led by Amrullah Saleh, the former Afghanistan vice president, has released a list categorizing the “real” and “fictional” numbers of military units within the Taliban army. Published on Monday, April 15th, on the X network, the Green Trend’s list of Taliban army units states: “The presence of forces on duty varies from one place to another. In some areas, their presence reaches seventy percent, while in others, it is as low as forty percent.”

This list indicates that out of 173,000 Taliban military personnel, nearly one hundred thousand are considered “fictional” forces. The “fictional” individuals in official formations are those who do not exist in reality but have their names included in administrative documents for corrupt purposes, such as obtaining benefits like extra rations and salaries.

According to the Green Trend, the level of Taliban military presence on duty is close to forty percent. The movement’s list records the total number of Taliban army members in various sectors as 173,724. The Green Trend also notes that some armed individuals receive bonuses based on “tribal affiliations” despite their lack of physical presence. It reports that awarding such bonuses is more prevalent due to the absence of social support for the Taliban in northern Afghanistan.

Rassa’s intelligence unit reported that this movement has succeeded in obtaining employment documents for over 50,000 employees of the Taliban’s defense ministry. The Green Trend further added that based on these documents, nearly “93 percent” of the Taliban defense ministry employees are Pashtuns.

In a part of this movement’s note, it mentions that “stealing food supplies” by Taliban military forces is carried out in a “very extensive” manner. According to the Green Trend, in local units where the actual number of personnel present reaches one hundred, they are claimed to be three hundred in order to receive food supplies and salaries.

The Green Trend also mentions in its note the distribution of electronic IDs to hundreds of “non-native” members of the Taliban in the provinces of Faryab and Badghis. The Taliban have not yet responded to this report by the Green Trend. Under the leadership of Amrullah Saleh, the Green Trend of Afghanistan has recently released information about Taliban security entities in recent days.
