Manawi: Taliban Have Manipulated Sharia Law

RASC News Agency: Fazel Ahmad Manawi, the former Minister of Justice, responded to the criticism of the Taliban leader by religious scholars, asserting that the group has manipulated Sharia law, deeming any action that benefits them as permissible and anything detrimental to them as forbidden. Mr. Manawi made these statements on Wednesday, Feb 7, in a post on the social media platform X.

He added that the Taliban leader considers criticism from religious scholars against him as forbidden, whereas during the time of the Prophet and the Rightly Guided Caliphs, people had the right to freely express their criticisms. The former Minister of Justice directly addressed the recent actions of the Taliban, stating that for every sanctity, there is “clear evidence,” and if you speak the truth, provide one.

These remarks come as the Taliban leader, in response to criticism from religious scholars, stated that criticism against him is “against Sharia,” and such criticisms will negatively impact their “regime.” It’s worth noting that during their over two years of control, the Taliban have repeatedly suppressed critics of their regime. In the latest incident, the group detained two religious scholars from the provinces of Kunduz and Nangarhar for criticizing their regime.
