RASC News Agency: Intelligence operatives from the Taliban group detained Abdul Rahman Zurmati, the former district governor of Zurmat in Paktia province, on Saturday afternoon, Feb 3, from the affordable area of Kabul city and apprehended him. According to Noor Rahman, the son of Mr. Zurmati, who addressed the media, on Saturday, Feb 3, he visited the Taliban passport office where Taliban intelligence operatives apprehended him and then forcefully demanded his father’s address.

He mentioned that after his father’s detention by the Taliban, they released him. Noor Rahman further conveyed his hope for the Taliban to honor their leader’s general amnesty decree and release his father. Taliban intelligence has yet to offer an explanation for Abdul Rahman Zarmati’s detention. Abdul Rahman Zarmati served as the governor of several districts in Paktia province during the former government of Afghanistan. Known for his staunch opposition to the Taliban, he has confronted the group on numerous occasions.

Mr. Zarmati battled against the Taliban in the waning days of the former government and departed the district along with several of his guards after it fell under siege by the group. Despite the Taliban’s declaration of a general amnesty upon seizing control of the country, pledging not to detain former military personnel and government officials, they have persistently detained, incarcerated, tortured, and executed former military personnel from various provinces over the past two years.

In this era, akin to their initial rule, the Taliban have deprived the people of Afghanistan of democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of belief, and freedom of action, displaying a blatant disregard for human rights.
