RASC News Agency: Local sources in Kunar Province confirmed on January 6th that ISIS fighters in the Chawkay district recently killed an individual accused of spying for the Taliban. ISIS fighters in the Sapidar village of the Dew Gul valley reportedly beheaded the victim, identified as “Wali Gul.” It is important to note that the individual killed was not a member of the Taliban group and did not hold an official position within their system. However, the Khorasan branch of ISIS claimed responsibility for the killing in a newsletter on January 5th, referring to the victim as a “Taliban spy.”
Despite the incident, the Taliban group has not yet commented on the matter. Sources in Kunar province have revealed that the Khorasan branch of ISIS is present in three districts of Kunar province, including Chawkay district, as well as the Chapa and Qourangal valleys of Mano Gai district and Ghaziabad district. These sources have also indicated that foreign fighters are among the ranks of ISIS, with Mullah Yaqoob, the Taliban’s defense minister, previously stating that Pakistani and Tajik fighters have been involved in attacks in Afghanistan.
The presence and activities of terrorist groups such as ISIS and the Al-Qaeda network in Afghanistan, under the control of the Taliban, have raised significant concerns among neighboring countries and the region as a whole. The matter at hand has been a persistent source of concern, with neighboring nations expressing their apprehensions about the situation on numerous occasions. Conversely, the Taliban group consistently refutes these allegations.
