Recent statistical revelations, stemming from military offensives against the Taliban’s adversarial fronts within the nation, delineate that over the past nine days of the current month, 26 Taliban members have succumbed, while an additional 14 have sustained injuries due to clandestine assaults orchestrated by entities aligned with these fronts across diverse provinces. Reports accessible to the media from the antithetical military fronts of the Taliban accentuate a significant upswing in military engagements, notably focusing on Taliban bases in the northern provinces of Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Samangan, and Sheberghan. The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, in a communique dated Sunday, December 17th, chronicles an assault on a Taliban military base in the Hese Awal district of Kapisa province, affirming, “This offensive resulted in the demise of three Taliban members, while three others suffered injuries.”
Within the same newsletter, the National Resistance Front expounds, “The attack on the Taliban base along the Mir Masjedi Khan road in the Hese Awal district of Kapisa province marked the second covert strike by this front in a single night against Taliban members. Previously, their military personnel had inflicted casualties upon the Taliban by launching an assault on the Taliban base in the Bagh Abdullahkhel area of Saidkhel district in Parwan province in which one Taliban member killed and another sustained injury.” Concurrently, the Freedom Front of Afghanistan, through myriad newsletters over the past nine days, has documented military offensives against Taliban members in various northern provinces. On Thursday, December 14th, targeted attacks on the intelligence apparatus of the Taliban in the central Rukha district of Panjshir province culminated in the demise of two members and injuries to another.
A recently established military front opposing the Taliban, identified as the “National Front,” also divulged in a newsletter that a military strike on the Taliban in Sheberghan city led to the demise of five members and injuries to seven others, with two fatalities reported. Furthermore, the Freedom Front of Afghanistan, in a newsletter dated December 12th, delineated a military assault by its members on a Taliban base in the first security zone of Aybak city, Samangan province. The outcome was three Taliban fatalities and injuries to two others.
Notwithstanding, military experts construe the escalating frequency of attacks on the Taliban as indicative of a burgeoning sentiment of resentment and repugnance among the populace towards this group. They posit, “Ethnic conflicts, violations of honor and property, recurrent homicides, and confiscation of citizens’ assets, coupled with the deprivation of human and citizenship rights, have fomented increased animosity towards the Taliban. Consequently, individuals are increasingly aligning with opposing military fronts to counteract this group.”
Ehsanullah Haidari, a former Afghanistan Army General, opines, “The people’s endurance regarding the transgressions of the Taliban and their aspirations for the downfall of the Taliban regime in the nation have dissipated. Consequently, the populace, particularly the youth, are striving to emancipate themselves from the captivity and oppression of the Taliban by aligning with military fronts against them.” General Haidari contends that the Vienna Summit and the collaborative proposal of leaders opposing the Taliban, coupled with global support for anti-Taliban politicians, have precipitated heightened military activities against this group in Afghanistan. Consequently, diverse military fronts are emerging in the recent days to combat the Taliban in different provinces.
The Taliban Faction, enforcing a ban on the dissemination of information concerning their casualties in military confrontations with opposing fronts through Afghanistan media, aims to uphold the morale of its personnel by concealing their military maneuvers and intensifying attacks against adversaries. This strategy is employed to thwart the formation of popular movements against them.
