RASC News Agency: On Monday, December 18th, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban group addressed the issue of the compelled repatriation of Afghanistani immigrants from neighboring countries and the broader region. Through a statement posted on the X social media platform, he underscored the imperative for international organizations and nations to intervene, preventing both the forced deportations and the adversities encountered by Afghanistani immigrants. Echoing these sentiments, Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund called for the safeguarding of Afghanistani immigrants, emphasizing the need for global protection.
In the context of a meeting in Kabul commemorating the “International Day of Migrants,” Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the administrative deputy of the Taliban group’s prime minister, voiced apprehensions about the ongoing process of forced deportation. He censured this practice, asserting its contravention of internationally accepted laws. While the Taliban group claims effective management of the deportation process, their officials persist in advocating for the rights and well-being of Afghanistani immigrants, urging international collaboration to address this pressing issue.
Within the same meeting, Khalil al-Rahman Haqqani, the Acting Minister of the Affairs of the Taliban Group for Refugees and Repatriation, underscored that over seven million Afghanistani refugees are currently residing in “foreign countries.” This is notwithstanding the substantial number of Afghanistani citizens seeking asylum in neighboring nations, notably Pakistan and Iran, due to the prolonged crises and conflicts within Afghanistan. Presently, both Pakistan and Iran have intensified repatriation efforts, leading to the deportation of thousands of migrants from Pakistan back to Afghanistan. The Pakistani government has committed to persist in this process until all undocumented migrants have been repatriated.
It is paramount to acknowledge that the situation in Afghanistan has markedly deteriorated since the Taliban assumed control of the country. Human and economic conditions have significantly regressed, and Pakistan’s actions in deporting Afghanistani migrants will only compound this already dire situation.
